Top 5 Things to Look for in a Wedding Photographer

We’re experts in helping our clients get the most out of their special day. To this day I LOVE the excitement of weddings - watching two people come together, the joining of two families, in one unit and celebrate their love and making a commitment in front of their friends and family. In modern culture where else do we see such pageantry? Keeping these moments alive is what we’re here for - to beautifully document your special day so you can review in years to come, with family, perhaps some not even born yet - and remember why you choose love.

But, as most weddings are a one-off occurrence - I’ve realized that many soon-to-be-brides don’t know some of the most important things to consider when selecting a wedding photographer. So, I’ve written this post on the top 5 things to look for in a wedding photographer.

Top 5 Things to Look for in a Wedding Photographer

Selecting the perfect wedding photographer is a pivotal decision for brides, as these professionals capture the essence of one of the most significant days in your and your husband’s lives. This is a guide based on what I’ve seen my brides prioritize as well as some additional more technical things to consider that are more wedding photography related.

  1. Exceptional Portfolio and Style: You’re seeking a wedding photographer whose portfolio resonates with your vision and style. Whether it's classic, candid, artistic, or a blend of styles, showcasing a diverse and compelling portfolio is important. When you look through the photos do they inspire you? Our work speaks for itself and we’ve shot in a wide variety of locations, with so many themes that we can handle every look and feel - from ultra modern and contemporary, to classic. And if there’s a style you don’t see that you’d like to see - just ask!

  2. Professionalism and Experience: Time and again, one of the biggest things I see from brides who have poor experiences is going with a friend or an amateur that “wants to build their portfolio” and offers photography for dirt cheap or even free. While cutting costs sounds great on the surface, these “photographers” don’t have adequate experience (particularly with the frenetic energy that can accompany weddings). Additionally, there are things that only experience teaches. That’s why we find our brides truly value a photographer who is not only skilled with a camera but also demonstrates professionalism and reliability.

  3. Personality and Comfort: We must have a connection. We know you’re looking for someone who makes you and your family feel comfortable and understood. Find a photographer that you click with!

  4. Customizable Packages and Value: Every wedding is unique, and as wedding photographers we offer packages that are customized towards your unique needs as well as are matched to your particular wedding. We’re seeing more and more elopements or micro-weddings these days (for example) - and as such these smaller ceremonies simply don’t require the same heavy lifting, equipment, time and editing that a larger more conventional multi-hour, multi-venue wedding will. No matter what you need, or your budget we’re here to make your day wonderful, memorable, and gorgeous.

  5. Timely Communication and Delivery: We know you value clear, prompt communication and adherence to timelines. We are committed to being accessible throughout the planning, photo and product delivery process.

Some Bonus Tips:

Editing - something to consider when selecting a wedding photographer - look at their editing style! Do you love it? You should! This may seem like a no-brainer but you’d be surprised how many people overlook it.

Reviews & Testimonials - Sometimes you just need to hear from someone that’s gone through what you’re going through now. Planning a wedding can be an overwhelming task. That’s why we have a full list of references available.

Your wedding photographer’s goal should not just be to meet your expectations but to exceed them. Let's connect and make your dream wedding photos a reality.
